All the countries in the world in order to make full use of coal resources, are constantly upgrading shearer, shearer's technical performance have being improved. monitoring system as shearer automation level important symbol,its development and application has been highly valued by the shearer's manufacturing enterprises, universities and research institutes.The variable speed closed hydraulic traction system which put forward by author's research group is the results of technological transformation for the traditional shearer hydraulic traction system, it has simple structure, good energy-saving effect, excellent control characteristics and so on.In order to improve the automation level of system, this paper specific to this system designed a set of monitoring system,using the touch screen, PLC, and the configuration software. According to the layered design idea, in accordance with the lower position machine structure, the monitoring system is divided into the field layer and management layer, the touch screen and PLC system constitute the field layer, century star monitoring system constitute the management layer. This paper analyzed the structure principle of variable speed closed hydraulic traction for shearer, collect related monitoring parameters,designed the hardware system, and selected the hardware module, developed touch screen monitoring system and the century star monitoring system. Described the general steps of designing monitoring system, and explained the key of system in detail,Writed PLC program by using the ladder diagram language, and explained the main program in detail.In order to verify the reliability of the monitoring system, this paper utilized the hydraulic transmission experiment platform for the system of hardware and software combined with simulation experiment, mainly complete the shearer speed regulation experiment, simulation experiment and shearer constant power control simulation experiments. From the system running situation, this system achieve the goal of monitoring for the variable speed closed hydraulic traction system, to the same type of the hydraulic system or engineering machinery monitor has a certain referential significance.
