| Harmony is one of the important guiding ideology in ancient Chinese philosophy. Harmony was regarded as the highest level of nature and society in the book ZHOU YI. Everything in the world takes harmony as the most valuable thing. The original meaning of harmony is congruity and consonant. It has several layers of meaning, such as opposite and supplementary to each other, concomitant and correspondence to each other, communication between yin and yang and so on. It was recorded in the book GUAN ZI, Chapter 49 that the birth of human being depending on the combination of essence from heaven and figure from the earth. If the two substance was in a harmonious state, there would be birth. If it wasn't harmonious, there wouldn't birth. Harmony is not only an phenomenon of the activity of nature, but also a life phenomenon.Harmony is a biological state of human body which containing the harmony between yin and yang, qi and blood, zang and fu. It was recorded in Internal Classic of Huangdi (Huang Di Nei Jing) that the pivot of yin and yang was the harmonious state. If the harmonious state was broke, the four season would be imbalance. So the sage would pursue the harmonious state which was a wise choice. It also recorded that the sage would regulate yin and yang, tendons and vessels, qi and blood, consolidate bone marrow. The pathogenic factors would not invade the harmonious human body. So if the harmonious state was broke, people would get sick or even die. Helping patients achieving harmonious state is one of the important objects of doctors.Harmonizing method is one of the eight treating methods in TCM which has an important part in therapeutics of TCM. The contents of applying harmonizing methods in regulating spleen and stomach is rich. It has important significance of study and clinical research in studing and discussing the application law of harmonizing method.Spleen is the source of acquired constitution. Spleen dominates ascending and stomach dominating descend. The ascending and descending of spleen and stomach is the pivot of harmonious state of five zang viscera. The manifestation in physiology is the appropriate in ascending and descending of qi, accepting and digesting of food, balance between dry and wet, harmony of yin and yang, excess and deficiency. Abnormal condition of spleen and stomach could be caused by exogenous factors, internal injuries, spleen and stomach diseases and other organs diseases. Manifestations in pathology are deficiency of spleen and stomach, qi stagnation of spleen and stomach, incoordination between liver and spleen, cold spleen and heat stomach, heat and dampness in spleen and stomach, heat in gallbladder and stomach, liver qi invade stomach. Regulating spleen and stomach is the basic therapeutic principle in treatment.The commonly used harmonizing methods are regulating spleen and stomach, such as Zhi Zhu Recipe, regulating liver and stomach, such as Si Ni Powder, regulating liver and spleen, such as Dang Gui Shao Yao Powder, regulating gallbladder and stomach, such Da Chai Hu Recipe, regulating stomach and intestine, such as Ban Xia Xie Xin Recipe, regulating Shaoyang, such as Xiao Chai Hu Recipe. The application law is combination of heat and cold, ascending and descending, expelling evils and strengthening healthy qi, internal and external relieving.The basic connotation of harmonizing method was put forward and defined through document arrangement. The study on harmonizing method of the ancient Chinese medicine doctors were reviewed. The application and its law in treating spleen and stomach diseases recorded in treatise on febrile and miscellaneous diseases(Shang Han Za Bing Lun) were collected and analysed. This study would promote the development of academic theory of TCM and provide guidance for improving the effect on treating spleen and stomach diseases in clinical practice. |
