As a representative of the postmodern writer in Japan, Murakami Haruki uses metaphor to express his unique thinking of the world, and the animal image in his novels is an important part of his metaphor world. Different from animal novels focus on biological aspects, Murakami develops his thinking about human problems, especially the violence problem through the metaphor of animal, the relationship between animal and people.This paper is divided into three parts, insights into the profound meaning and the value of animal image in Murakami's novel.Chapter 1, by summarizing animal image in literature works, anlaysing the root of animal image in Murakami's novel, which can help us understand his animal image and its violence meaning.Chapter 2, discussing the prototypic animal by taking sheep and cat as representative. Sheep symbolizes the visible war violence and the invisible system violence in the progress of Japan's modernization, cat symbolizes the victims of violence. The analogy between killing people and cat, human's violence to animal, we can find the deep core of violence, the history memory, the loss of self, identity and the right to live in Murakami's novel. Chapter 3, By using Deleuze's theory of becoming, study the becoming-animal image in Murakami's work, and how the writer imagines running away from the evil of the enhanced invisible violence nowadays through becoming-animal.With the accelerating progress of modernity and globalization, Murakami's description of animal image collectively presents the double pursuing relationship between Haruki Murakami, as the Japanese author and the country's identity. He explored the core of violence from the deepest position of history that was not able to be obliterated, as well as its transformation and expansion. For Haruki Murakami, involved into the social history from his own world, not only faced up to the evil of violence, but also produced relationship with history with new method, and avoid remaking the statement of advantages to create violence to other people. At the same time, although he sometimes possessed the yearning of escaping to the harmonious world from the reality of this violence, more importantly, he did not forget the history and utilized memory as the weapon to cope with numerous and complicated violence.
