Cognitive Analysis About The Meaning Of Libian, Waibian, Limian,Waimian ,Litou, Waitou

On the basis of spatial location reference theory and metaphor in cognitive theory, the thesis describes spatial meaning and extended meaning of "X libian", "X limian", "X litou", "X waibian", "X waimian", "X waitou" according to their semantic cognitive interpretation. Meanwhile, the thesis concludes the similarities and difference among six words and analyses the reason of the similarities and difference of them according to cognitive theory.The thesis includes five parts, the contents are as the following:Chapter One is the introduction, introducing the studying purpose, studying scope, the relevant theory, methods of the research and stating the achievement of the previous research in this field.Chapter Two is divided into three parts, mainly analyzing symmetry and asymmetry of the meaning of "X libian", "X limian", "X litou", "X waibian", "X waimian", "X waitou". Part One presents the spatial meaning and extended meaning of "X libian" and "X waibian" and describes the level of extended meaning of them. On the basis of that, illustration is shown to compare the meaning of these two words. Then, the reason why asymmetry appears in this pair is presented. At the end of this part, the extended way of meaning development of these two words is shown in the way of illustration. Part Two lists the spatial meaning and extended meaning of "X limian" and "X waimian" and describes the level of extended meaning of them. Part Three illustrates the spatial meaning and extended meaning of "X libian" and "X waibian" and describes the level of extended meaning of them to find out the meaning development of these words.Chapter Three compares the meaning of "libian", "limian" and "litou" in a group and "waibian", "waimian" and "waitou" in a another group and lists similarities and difference among these words.Further, it explains the reasons why there are similarities and difference among these words. On the basis of comparing results, the definition of "-bian", "-mian", "-tou" is given according to the Grammaticalization Theory.Chapter Four explains how people choose "libian", "limian", "litou","waibian", "waimian" and "waitou" in the view of position reference point, the size of reference and functional point of space object and reference frame.The last part is conclusion. It concludes the results of this thesis and points out the deficiency of the thesis.
