Euphemism is an unique phenomenon in human society. Chinese euphemism and Japanese euphemism have achieved great success in their own languages. However, nobody has ever researched the comparison of Chinese and Japanese euphemism. In order to analyze their comparison, this paper looks on the euphemism from vocabulary, sentence and discourse levels as its starting point. It aims to reveal the similarities and the differences between Chinese and Japanese cultures and languages, and then analyze its causes. Through comparing the composition method of euphemism (Chinese and Japanese euphemisms can be achieved by vocabulary and grammar), social culture (the social background of the similarities and differences between Chinese and Japanese euphemisms due to the similarities and differences between Chinese and Japanese cultures) and pragmatic function (the effects of pragmatics and context on the choice and understanding of euphemism). This paper analyzes the Chinese and Japanese euphemism deeply. The comparative study in this paper not only enriches the comparison between Chinese and Japanese languages to some extent, but it is also the complement and addition to the comparative research of Chinese and foreign languages.
