Motivation is one of the most important factors during studying a second language. It is an element which can directly promote students to study. It plays an important role to direct and drive students'studying, which is a core in the process of studying.However, most researchers pay much attention to the motivation of students who are studying English or Japanese, while those who are studying Chinese are ignored. Therefore, I think we need to research the motivation of Chinese learners and this article discusses the motivation of Chinese learners in the Korean high schools.On base of the present researches and using the methods of questionnaires, interviews and case analysis, I investigated 186 high school students in Korea as representatives. The following are main findings:First, I divide the factors that affect the motivation of foreign language learning into the learner, teacher, teaching methods, teaching materials and environmental factors when I research this topic.Second, the main learning Motivations of the Korean high school students is instrumental learning motivations. That of Foreign language high school students are more obvious and intense. To the students of common high school and technological high school, the main motivation is extrinsic learning motivations. In respect of interest of learning Chinese, That of Foreign language high school students are higher than that of common high school and technological high school students.Third, to the Korean high school students, Chinese is a second language. Although they think Chinese is a very important language to their future and there are more and more students who are interested in Chinese, now they haven't spent more time learning Chinese, the studying of Chinese is not very concentrated neither.Fourth, high school students are not satisfied with the foreign language learning environment of the schools and society, neither the teaching materials. In order to stimulate the motivation of students, teachers and education researchers should study carefully and make some improvement.Based on the results, this paper provides some strategies and suggestions which can stimulate the motivation of Korean high school students.
