Chinese progressive complex sentence, which is frequently used, is very common in Chinese Compound Sentence. It's a very complicate grammar, which can be divided into three types, ie. positive-forword progressive complex sentence, negative-forward progressive complex sentence and retrospective progressive complex sentence, according to the semantic relationship between clauses. There are some regular errors when foreign students use Chinese progressive complex sentence. A study of the rules of foreign students using Chinese progressive complex sentences can help to shun the errors when foreign students use this type of sentence. However, at present there is no much study on it.This thesis is based on the former studies and the materials of"HSK dynamic composition corpus"on Beijing Language And Culture University website, and it is mainly targeted on the Chinese progressive complex sentence which is related by progressive marked relators, especially the 18 progressive relators that are extracted from"the Guideline of Chinese Grade Level Standard and Grammar Grade Level Standard". This study will figure out various error cases of foreign students using Chinese progressive complex sentence and relators after doing a lot of statistics and descriptions.The theories used in this thesis are Contrast Analysis Theory, Error Analysis Theory, Second-language Corpus Analysis Theory and Second-language Acquisition Theory. Centering on the progressive relators, this thesis analyzes the distribution situation and error situation of progressive complex sentence patterns as well as relators and sort out nine error types, ie, preterition, redundancy, mis-replacement, mis-usage, wrong order, component defect, pell-mell sentence, unbalanced sentence, and wrong punctuation sentence. After a lot of detailed description and explanation, we sum up a relatively integrated outline of foreign students'using progressive complex sentence.In the end, the theis puts forward some advice about setting Chinese progressive complex sentence in the TCFL textbooks and some teaching strategies of Chinese progressive complex sentence to the TCFL teachers.
