Archaic militarist Sun said:" Can not win, defend. Otherwise attack. " This kind of military anamnesis is same with the play of basketball, defence is main part of basketball opposition. During the 29th Olympic Games, China's men's basketball team, with a result of two wins and four losses, won an eighth place, which should have been a much better result as what we have expected before this game. Generally speaking, Chinese basketball team have given their best performances, beating Angela team, the African Champion, and Germany team, a powerful participant from Europe while defeated by the US, Greece, Spain, and Lithuan. Based on the technical analysis and live obeservations, we come to realize that, although Chinese team has made some progress, they still have quite a few shortcomings:too many faults, pretty high defence failure rate, as well as their technics and sense of playing to be further enhanced, all of which would get in the way of our championship in international matches. What's more, we still have much room to improve our team's offence, adjustability, joint defence, and their efficiency. With the purpose of further improving Chinese basketball team's defence and clarify the gains and losses of the defence in this Olympic Games, this research carried out a statistic analysis of Chinese basketball team's defence tactics and its effects based on the operation of position defence tactics in the six matches in the 29th Olympic Games, so as to find out different results of each defence tactics and differences in defence tactics between Chinese basketball team and other powerful teams, and to provide theoretical basis for Chinese basketball team's defence tactics, with the hope that they can finally get a better result than the eighth place. The conclusions are as follows:1. It could be found by watch the six matches in the 29th Olympic Games that, the factor influenced Chinese man's basketball team turn to be the skills, the tactics and the idea of defence and body conditioning. 2. Compared with ancient games, pressure and attack play very importamt part in defence. During the six matches in the 29th Olympic Games all the participants, including China, adopt a position defence tactics based on the half-court one-on-one defence, which accounts for a large ration of their defence tactics.3. Lack of change on the tatics of defence is another shortage of China's team. Chinese team's auxiliary defence tactics are zone defence, in which players stand on comparatively fixed positions, moves slowly, thus can not defend in a larger region. Chinese team's defence can hardly defeat their opponent by surprise or change the unfavorable situation. Chinese team has been doing better in defence, especially in the guideline of TO and foul, while they lack the consciousness to offend actively.4. Chinese team's defence is inadequately offensive, for they seldom use whole-court one-on-one defence. Getting used to less intensive defence, Chinese team's poor performance mainly results in their low ratio of successful defence, which, if not well addressed, would be Chinese team's largest obstacle in their way of progress.
