With rapid development of economy, people exploit water resource on anunprecedented scales, the increasing gap of freshwater resources has becomerestricting factors of social economic. Environment friendly, seawater desalination hasadvantages of unlimited access, huge scale, high technology and less effect on theenvironment, compared with other way of obtaining the freshwater resources. Thetechnology of reverse osmosis seawater desalination leads a integrated, intelligent andindustrialization trending in desalination project, correspondingly equipment structureand the relationship of components are more complex and the possibility of the faultincreases, then the traditional fault diagnosis technology will not be able to meet thedemand of system reliability. Therefore, develop of a set of intelligent fault expertsystem has important practical value for the reliable operation of the water desalinationsystem.The faults of reverse osmosis membrane, energy recycling equipment and highpressure pump in desalination project are analyzed. Based on which the faulty treemodel is built, it is an important means of knowledge acquisition. The knowledge baseof the expert system was established by adopting semantic net representation methodand production rule representation method. Through the structure design of the expertsystem knowledge base establish the fault fact table, reasoning rule table, rulecondition table, rule conclusion table and maintenance strategy table in the database.The diagnosis system selects the method of pros and cons of hybrid reasoning strategy,design the inference engine through not accurate reasoning mechanism. In themeanwhile of faulty reasoning, the system gives the reasonable explanation in themethods of text preset and tracking locus, and the detailed maintenance strategy isgiven. In addition, the knowledge base management interface is provided, users canadd, delete or update the diagnosis knowledge.In Visual Studio 2008 and SQL Server 2005 workbench in the OPP language ofC# developed the fault diagnosis expert system. Users selected some faulty symptoms,the system start to reasoning and give the diagnosis result.
