Plate heat exchanger,as an efficient,compact and energy saving heat exchangeequipment, has already been widely used in the areas of Chemical, pharmaceutical, food,electricity, machinery, heating, ships and so on. However, in the design process of plateheat exchanger, the design efficiency is relatively low, the data management is notstandard and the work of designer is too large. With the continuous development ofcomputer technology and parametric technology mature gradually, The development of asuitable heat exchanger industry3D software becomes the goal which numerousdesigners pursue.This paper mainly discusses the application on second development with VB ofthe mechanical design software SolidWorks, to establish3D model of plate heatexchanger automatically and rapidly, at the same time, it also can transform themodel and introduce to the finite element analysis software,such as ANSYS, for dataanalysis.In this process, we use the API technology which SolidWorks provided for thedesigners and the ADO technology which used by Visual Basic linked to the database,at the same time, it extended the Microsoft Office Access as the EngineeringDataBase,which make the model parametric and rapidly. So the design efficiency willimproved greatly and the design cycle will be shorten.In the initial stage of development, we determine the system’s overall goal,analyze the need and the feasibility for this system. We established a system of overallplanning and program trough the analysis with life cycle. It got the parametric designsteps through analyzing the design model of plate heat exchanger and it also got thedatabase type in the designing process through analyzing the data flow which used inthe parametric design process of plate heat exchanger. During the last phase, systemprogramming of code design and interface design are accomplished, and the wholesystem is encapsulated as a consummate software.At last, an example of the plate heat exchanger model shows that: this systemcan establish a3D solid model of plate heat exchanger parametrically andautomatically, this system operated simply. It also shows that this system achieves thestorage, processing, management and sharing of engineering database through thedatabase operating system. The designers can transform data via this system and makeit is fit to the finite element analysis software, such as ANSYS, through which wecan receive the necessary data for the optimization...
