Nowadays, products renewal speed and user demand diversity is the trend of the development. The question is the products diversity、 personality、 small-lot manufacturing and short time of maintenance. So, the measures of modular、 parameter design and computer aided design must be taken.The research object of this paper is NC horizontal lathe. It has developed a set of Computer Aided Combination system based on the research of home and abroad. The system uses Visual Basic as programming language and SolidWorks as a platform.In the research and development process, it has compiled a DLL files with VB6.0by the supported of SolidWorks API. The modules can be automatic selection and combination by standardized NC horizontal lathe template. It greatly improves the design efficiency and shortened the design cycle.In whole study, the NC horizontal lathe’s function model and system structure were designed based on modular product design theory. It put forward the module coding method based on group technology and completion of the main modules coding system of machine tool. The second development of SolidWorks has been explored and it established a detail progress about Computer Aided Combination. It analysised a data management of machine tool’s module about production management、 sales management and warehouse management. The system model has been established with Rational Rose based on UML.At last, it wrote system program and designed man-computer interface.
