With the rapid development of the steel industry in China, a lot of imported iron ore keep increasing. The weak magnetic iron ore is gradually exploiting. At present, the magnetizating roasting is one of the effective methods to the weak magnetic iron ore, artificial magnetite and natural magnetite are strongly magnetic minerals, there has rarely reported about the research on their flotation behavior. Therefore, carrying out the research on artificial magnetite and natural magnetite flotation behavior to enhance the resoures utilization of the weak magnetic iron ore, this has a definite theoretical and practical guidance.This paper used collector laurylamine, sodium oleate and depressor corn starch in artificial magnetite and natural pure mineral magnetite flotation experiments, and the separation flotation experiments of manually mixed ore. At the same time, research on the difference of artificial magnetite and natural magnetite flotation behavior, using electrokinetic potential, infrared spectrum and scanning electron microscope analysis.The experiment results show that:(1) Laurylamine as collector, the flotability of artificial magnetite is poor than that of natural magnetite, the pH value of best flotation have some different in both. Natural magnetite is best flotation recovery about in pH=10.5. But artificial magnetite is best flotation recovery about in pH=9.(2) In the presence of starch, in pH=8, with mineral particle size decreasing, compared with natural magnetite, artificial magnetite is more difficult depressed by starch.(3) To get good beneficiation markers, artificial magnetite-quartz manually mixed ore consume more the dosage of laurylamine than natural magnetite-quartz manually mixed ore.(4) It is concluded from mechanism analysis that artificial magnetite is porous structures, but natural magnetite is compact structure. Compared with natural magnetite, artificial magnetite has bigger specific surface area but smaller tap density. The results of adsorption show that artificial magnetite has better adsorption property but smaller adsorption density.(5) In laurylamine as collector system, the porous structures of artificial magnetite is main cause on the diffences of flotation behaviour between artificial magnetite and natural magnetite (6) Sodium oleate as collector, some ions dissolve out of artificial magnetite surface, in the acidic condition, doesn’t have much effect on the flotation of artificial magnetite, but under the condition of alkalinity, have much effect on that.(7) It is concluded from mechanism analysis that under the condition of alkalinity, the calcium and magnesium ions dissolve out of artificial magnetite and sodium oleate role will generate precipitation, have grate effect on mineral flotation.(8) In sodium oleate as collector system, compared with natural magnetite, the porous structures and a lot of calcium and magnesium ions are from artificial magnetite, all are the major reasons.
