High speed and large diameter are becoming development trends of discseparator, the strength requirements of the drum components is moredemanding. New technology and method are being used to design drumcomponents, meeting their functional requirements and strengthrequirements. Over the last decade, due to the rapid development ofcomputer technology and extensive application, finite element method hasbeen more widely applied in engineering practice, and received good results.The finite element method is the most effective means. Considering thestructural characteristics of the drum components, applying the finiteelement method to research stress of drum components is widely concernedby the manufacturers of domestic as well as foreign research institutions.This paper provides an overview of the application and developmentstatus of the separation machinery, as well as domestic and internationaldrum component design methods. In this research,3D geometric model of acertain type of separator drum components is built, based on the finiteelement analysis of cyclic symmetric structure theory, Applying finiteelement analysis software ABAQUS and model of the basic sector, the finiteelement analysis of it completed. According to strength theory and industrystrength evaluation method, strength analysis and evaluation of the drumcomponents is done. The research work of this paper includes:1. Based on the theory of surrounding cyclic symmetry structure,modeling and analysis of the drum components of KYDH209butterflyseparator are simplified. One basic sector of the drum components, insteadof the whole components, is analyzed in detail.3D geometric model of thisbasic sector is presented.2. Load condition and distribution is figured out, and its formula isspecified. According to the mechanic condition under working, strengthanalysis of the drum components is divided into two parts—drumcombination and piston, strength analysis of which is made to be carried out.The boundary condition and the interaction of drum components also aremade clear. 3. Finite element analysis of this basic sector is carried out by usingABAQUS.4. Based on finite element analysis results, with the help of the strengththeory, strength analysis and evaluation of each component part of the drumcomponents are work out.5. Stress changes of the drum components in the case of differentmaterial density and speed of the drum components are researched, the twofactors on the strength of the drum components are summed up.6. Summary of the shortcomings of this paper is done, some researchdirections of this research field are provided.
