The cold mill product as an important part in the steel industry has agreat status on the national production and life. And meanwhile, require forthe high-precision steel products becomes higher and higher. Siemensproducts are always high-end products in the field of industry and have a highstatus on the product lines requiring high quality. Recently, new Siemensdrive product ‘Sinamics’ has been used in many new product lines. The papermakes a research on a product line drive system based on Sinamics. The paper analyzes the steel industry and the cold mill industry, andmakes a research on the cold mill line and the key technology. Then SiemensSinamics and the several vector control principles are introduced, and apply acold mill line example to analyze the drive system. The project of the reversible cold mill in the paper includes the work ofhardware design of drive system, manufacturing and test of the electricalcontrol cabinets, installation supervisor on site and commissiong on the drivesystem. One keystone in the paper is using synchronous motors for the maindrives. The AC speed control system has the advantages of reliability, strongover-loading ability, high efficiency, etc. The performance has becomeparallel to that of DC speed control system, and the cost of maintaining islower and the power factor is higher. So the AC speed control system hasbeen popularized globally in high capacity speed control system. In addition, the tension control concept in Siemens also got the good result in the onestand reversible cold mill. The cold mill mentioned in the paper has been put into production, andthe operation condition is good, which get the costumer’s high opinion. The products of the line also reach the lead level in the world.
