China has become the largest bulk drug producer and export of antibiotics. In theproduction process of fermentation antibiotics, pharmaceutical factory product largeamounts of wastewater, which contain high concentration of organic matter and antibioticresidues. Along with the further stringent of national environmental requirements, it isbecome the study focus and hotspots to treat fermentation antibiotics wastewater.By analysising the characteristics of streptomycin pharmaceutial wastewater, whichcontains high COD and poor wastewater biodegradability,“UASB–aerobic bio-contactoxidation” processes were used to treat it. The main results were shown as following:The anaerobic biodegradability of streptomycin pharmaceutial wastewater indicateddifferent streptomycin concentration had different degrees of the inhibitory effect ofanaerobic digestion. The streptomycin concentration were1500mg/L,2000mg/L,2500mg/L, and the inhibitory effect were faint, obvious, serious. The anaerobic digestion experiment results confirmed the biodegradability ofstreptomycin wastewater is good. After acclimation in the start-up phase, the anaerobicbiodegradability of streptomycin wastewater was improved. The best conditions forUASB treatment of streptomycin pharmaceutical wastewater were: the HRT was24, thevolume loading rate was11kgCOD/(m3·d). Under the best conditions above, theconcentration of COD decreased from11000mg/L to1100mg/L and the removal rate ofCOD was85%, the concentration of SO42-was840890mg/L, the biogas yield was5.5L/(L d). In the volume loading of12kgCOD/(m3·d), the anaerobic reactor occurredacidification. The optimal operational conditions of the aerobic bio-contact oxidation process were:the HRT was12, the volume loading rate was2.2kgCOD/(m3·d), the25℃, the DO was4.51mg/L. Under the best conditions above, the concentration of COD decreased from1100mg/L to165mg/L, the removal rate reached to85%, and the concentration of SO42-decreased from850mg/L to170mg/L, the removal rate reached to80%.
