Textile printing and dyeing, as an important industry in China, has a largenumber of enterprises all over the country, in which fabric heat-setting machine isvery important and necessary equipment. Its main function is to dry and set dyedhumid fabrics by heated water vapor in drying rooms to get qualified fabrics.Heat-setting machine has some striking features: big volume, high energyconsumption, complicated structure etc. At present, in most enterprises, as theheat-setting machine is operated and controlled by man, the production process haslow products’ qualified rate and very high energy consumption. Supported by theNational High Technology Research and Development Program of China (863Program), the paper consider heat-setting machine as our research object. To ensurethe premise of production, reduce process energy consumption, and prove the wholeproduction process with excellent dynamic characteristics, the energy consumptionmodel, optimization and control technologies are studied in this paper. Practical DCSwas designed and applied in the process operation and control. The research haspractical significance in promoting enterprise technology progress, saving energy andreducing consumption. The main jobs accomplished in this paper are summarized asfollows:(1) On the basis of research results in heat-setting machine worldwide andpractical production conditions, after the analysis of process technology, energyconsumption characteristics and control requirements, its energy consumption modelbuilt by other group member is transformed into a optimization problem. At the sametime, an modified particle swarm algorithm (MPSO) based on the standard particleswarm algorithm (SPSO) is proposed. Then, MPSO is used to optimize thetransformed energy consumption optimization problem to derive its key parameters.Furthermore, a comparison tests between MPSO and SPSO on benchmark functionsare also done, which demonstrate that the MPSO algorithm gives a better optimum solution in dealing with multiple local optima and multi-dimensional problems.Besides, the MPSO algorithm is also used to solve the energy consumption models forother kinds of common fabrics under different heat-setting conditions separately,whose series results may provide some operation references for heat-setting processengineers and operators.(2) Based on the optimization results used in setting the temperature of eachoven, a new fuzzy controller design method based on Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO_FC) is proposed in this paper. The PSO_FC method is realized below: first weinitialize query table by using adjustment factor; then let the controller output reachup with the ideal output by optimizing the parameters, such as adjusted factor. Finallythe new proposed PSO_FC controller is applied and tested in the heat-settingtemperature control system. The simulation results show that the PSO_FC has betterstable performance, higher control precision and stronger practicability.(3) We have completed the intelligent control system designing, the softwareprogramming and field installation debugging of fabric heat-setting machine based onDCS. And the system was put into operation in7#heat-setting machine of Zhejiangasia-pacific’s wide co., LTD. The application results show that the proposed controlsystem is practical, safe and reliable, and the actual operation with good temperaturetracking, high control precision, and high popularization value.
