Objective:To investigate depression, anxiety and the change of cognitive function in the rats, caused by CFA-induced chronic inflammation pain, and whether gabapentin can improve the cognitive function, and decrease the severity of depression and anxiety.Methods:32Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into4groups(n=8): Normal group, CFA group:CFA was injected in left hindfoot, CFA+Gabapentin group:CFA was injected in left hindfoot and gabapentin intragastric administration, and Gabapentin group:gabapentin intragastric administration.Gabapentin intragastric administration:50mg/kg, Bid,8a.m. and8p.m., from15day to28day. Paw withdrawal threshold was assessed by Electronic dolorimeter, anxiety-like behaviour was measured by elevated plus maze, cognitive function was measured by open field test, and depression was measured by forced swimming test. Results:The paw withdrawal threshold of CFA rats raise up after gabapentin intragastric administration. Day14and day28,CFAraets became anxiety and their cognitive function declined. In28th day, CFA+Gabapentin group rats became less anxiety and cognitive function improved. In day28, CFA rats became depression and CFA+Gabapentin group rats had a low level of depression.Conclusions:CFA-induced chronic inflammation pain rats became depression and anxiety, and the rats’cognitive function declined. With administration of gabapentin, a effective analgesia drug, the cognitive function improved, and depression and anxiety could be a low level.
