The Research About Cognitive Style And Social Comparison Of Mental Illness Patients

Mental illness is one of the complicated illnesses in today’s society. We have groped for the reason, treatment and prognosis of the disease for a long time. Generally, mental illness is the result of interaction of which individual susceptibility quality and the psychological and social factors. How to improve the personality characteristics of mental illness patients, change the negative cognitive behavioral model of patients, and improve the stress bear and processing power to stressful life events(such as all kinds of social comparison and its negative effects),and then prevent the occurrence and development of mental illness, is the major problem in contemporary clinical psychology.The field dependent-independence is a kind of cognitive style, also a kind of personality characteristics. The social comparison is a cause leading to cognitive bias, also an important infector of establishing self-assessment. More important, this is the question everyone have to face and settle. So, to study the relationship between the field dependent-independent and social comparison relationship, there is not only theoretical value, but also certain practical meaning. And make the mental illness patients as the research objects, the more likely we are to get the practical application of reference value. This study selected48mental illness patients treated in The Changsha mental hospital and The second Province people’s hospital of Hunan as the study subjects, and32normal persons as the control group. In this investigation, we got some conclusions as follows:(1) There are significant differences between the field dependence and field independence on anxiety level, social comparison content and social comparison result.(2) The social comparison orientation and social comparison content are correlated significantly with social comparison result, and there is some correlation between social comparison orientation and social comparison content.
