Objective: To research the expression of ESM-1in colorectal cancerand analyze the relationship between ESM-1expression and the clinicalparameters of colorectal cancer. And explore the possibility of ESM-1as aindicator for prognosis evaluation through investigate the correlationbetween ESM-1expression and serum CEA value. Methods: Serum CEAof colorectal cancer patients were detected by ECLIA; Expression ofESM-1in62tumor tissue samples of colorectal cancer as well as in23normal mucous membrane tissue samples was analyzed usingimmunohistochemistry. Results: The expression of ESM-1was higher incancerous tissue samples than in normal colon and rectum tissuesamples(43.6%vs8.7%). No correlation was found between stainingintensity and clinical parameters such as sex, age, lymph node metastasis, histological grade, depth of invasion, Dukes stage. However, the expressionof ESM-1was positively correlated with the tumor size and distantmetastasis(P<0.05). The27positive cases in the study team, whose meanCEA value was (29.01±33.43)ng/ml; The35weakly positive cases in thestudy, whose mean CEA value was (4.16±3.17)ng/ml. There was significant difference in intergroup comparison (t=-4.383, P<0.05).Conclusions: The over expression of ESM-1in colorectal cancer is closelyinterrelated with development and invasion activity of colorectal cancer.ESM-1can be a potential novel indicator for prognosis assessment.
