| Based on recorded and transcribed classroom teaching date, theauthor makes an attempt to describe, analyze and the verbalcommunication in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language(abbreviatedas ‘TCSL’).In this work, the author analyzes the characteristics and objective ofthe verbal communication in TCSL class, points out that verbalcommunication in TCSL is multi-dimensioned evolving groupcommunication in which plenty of meaningful negotiation must beconducted by the participants. Verbal communcatian in TCSL is also acontinuum between teaching communication and social communication.The objective of the communication is identical with that of TCSL: tohelp students achieve their cognitive, affective and cross-culturalcommunication potential.The author gives a detailed study on the fourelements of the classroom verbal communication: communication context,participators’ roles, topic content and language medium. And expoundson the characteristics of these four elements and their influence onlanguage instruction and students’ language acquisition. The study goeson to suggest that the teacher should create a more ideal environment;play various roles; choose more practical and interesting topics and adopteffective language media to better sever the students’ languageacquisition.This study, based on abundant classroom teaching material, applyingthe theories of humanism pedagogy and foreign language teaching, givesa dynamic and detailed description and analysis on classroom verbalcommunication, explores a new field in TCSL study, and demonstratesmore specific and clearer understanding on the TCSL classroom teaching. |
