Multi-angled Research On Body Nouns Used As Classifiers In Modern Chinese

An important characteristics of Modern Chinese is abundant classifiers. The research scope of this paper is the usage interpretation of body nouns used as classifiers, involving description on synchronic plane, changes on diachronic plane, research on grammaticalization process, etymology of classifiers, comparative study and so on. This paper selects "Gu","Mian","Kou" from abundant body nouns, they respectively represent one-dimensional, two-dimensional and three-dimensional. This paper will study the three clssifiers from the Perspective of Cognitive Linguistics,this is the emphasis and innovation of this paper. It attempts to inspect their synchronic plane and than inspect their diachronic plane, analyze grammaticalization and the reasons of transformation form nouns to classifiers, which will stimulate our new understanding on body nouns used as classifiers. The paper consists of five parts:The first part is introduction section, including the research background and significance, research summary of classifiers and body nouns used as classifiers, research object, theory and methods. This section will help us to have a further understanding on classifiers and "gu","mian","kou".Chapter Ⅱ,Ⅲ and IV is the focus of this paper. The second part mainly studies "gu","mian","kou" on synchronic plane, and explores their grammaticalization process.The third part descripts "gu","mian","kou" on synchronic plane, it applies contrastive analysis, descripts and interprets their semantic features in detail.The fourth chapter exolores the grammaticalization prosess and grammaticalization reason of body nouns used as classifiers, which based on cognitive linguistics theories such as image schema, metaphor and metonymy.The last chaptert is concluding remarks, which discurses study achievement, significance and revelation for classifier studies. At last this paper will contain research conclusion and significance.
