Modal adverbs are one of the key and difficult study points in modern Chinese linguistic academic, which are also in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language. This thesis doesn’t intend to make the whole explanations for all the modal adverbs. We only choose a group of euphemistic words with similar meanings——"haoxiang"、"fang fu"and "sihu" as our research objects. Through literature searching, it’s found that there is only one thesis study on their differences so far, but its arguments are not wholly detailed.With this in mind, based on the large amount of corpus, this thesis applying the scientific methods, such as the combination of quality and quantity、the unity of description and explanation, contrastive analysis, and so on, firstly has studied the modal adverbs "haoxiang"、"fang fu" and "sihu" in meticulous multi-angles way that mainly refer to semantics、syntax and pragmatics, which provides theory basis for the Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language. The semantics is mainly about summing up anew these three words’ basic grammar significances, and making a comprehensive comparative analysis. The syntax is mainly about exploring their common position in sentences、their cooccurrence with other words and frequently-used collocation structure. The pragmatics is mainly about investigating their pragmatic premise conditions、choices for the type of sentences and differences in stylistics.Next, in order to know better how foreigners who are learning Chinese use these three words, we have designed a questionnaire about them for foreign students on the basis of the theoretical research results. And then we have also analyzed superficially and summarized the types of the errors made by students.Finally, in accordance with the above two chapters, this thesis has made corresponding teaching designs for these three words from three aspects——semantics、syntax and pragmatics. What’s more, it has also put forward some thoughts for teaching modal adverbs. It’s expected to offer some available teaching methods for Chinese teachers, and finally make students understand and grasp these three modal adverbs effectively.The fundamental purpose of this thesis is exactly to serve Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language. We have selected a group of relative modal adverbs as study objects, difference analysis as key study points with scientific methods. We don’t mean to ask for comprehensive system but for practical details.
