Fossil ivory is one kind of precious unrecycled resource. Due to its trend of argilization, millipore and growth of crack in its internal structure as well as some external environmental factors, the preserving condition for those fossils turns to be precarious. The major damage on the Chengcheng county fossil ivory include breakage, surface attachment, original fissures, partial lost, surface exfoliation and improper temporary protection. To begin with, the statistical chart of fossil ivory damage in Chengcheng county should be paint to calculate the damage acre. Then comes the physical data collection of Chengcheng county fossil ivory’s density, water absorption and porosity, the result proves that the Chengcheng fossil ivory has a low density, high water absorption and porosity. These inspection findings reflect that the Chengcheng fossil ivory is loose porous and fragile in material.According to microscopic analysis such as cross-section analysis, powder polarized microscopic analysis and sliced polarized microscopic analysis, etc. the micro structure of Chengcheng county fossil ivory can be fully cognized and thus offer strong evidence to its petrifaction process. Powder polarized microscopic analysis can be employed as one convenient method to analyze fossil ivory. The Chengcheng fossil ivory’s elemental composition, material composition and micro structure is analyzed and observed by the method of X fluorescence analysis, X-ray diffraction analysis and scanning electron microscopy, energy spectrum analysis. The result proves that the Chengcheng county fossil ivory is not fully patrifacted, the points hydroxyapatite in the main category of inorganic is still preserved. By the same time the tubule, loose structure and attachments’micro structure can be observed, which provide trusted evidence to the Chengcheng county fossil ivory’s pathogenic mechanism. The pathogenic mechanism of Chengcheng county fossil ivory is preliminarily regarded as the lost of inorganic fibrin, which caused the disappearance of flexibility and tenacity supported by the inorganic substances. Besides, the external factors such as water, attachments and weather along with the man-made sabotage and improper protection give serious damage to Chengcheng county fossil ivory, which is now under great threat. In line with Chengcheng county fossil ivory’s detecting and analyzing result, the solution is made as follows:to choose stone conservation fixation accelerator; to launch protection and fixation experiments and to further test them with the permeability experiment, off color measurement, compressive strength test, shear strength test. These tests clarified that biological inorganic materials is very similar with the structure and composition of Chengcheng county fossil ivory. However, Ethyl silicate two polymer Remmers300produced by Remmers corporation of Germany is more advantageous in function, and have ideal consolidation and conservation effect.
