The Research Of Beidao’s Overseas Poetry

Beidao is an unavoidable “island” in Chinese contemporary literary history.Beidao has been in exile since the late1980s and hence his poetry presents adifferent style of art from domestic period.Through a close reading of his overseas poetry, this paper focuses onBeidao’s overseas work. Besides the introduction and conclusions, this paper isdivided into three parts. Chapter one defines exile, reviews Beidao’s journey, andanalyzes Beidao’s difficulties in his overseas journey based on this definition ofexile. These difficulties were always along with him, bothered him, and couldn’tbe solved. This chapter is the first step of researching Beidao’s overseas poetry.Chapter two discusses the possibilities of revive in difficulties which are also thenew characters of his overseas poetry, they are the new “presents of poet”, the newimage groups, the new emotional styles and the new thinking of Chinese classicalpoetry. This is the in-depth research of Beidao’s overseas poetry and the keyanalysis of this paper. The last chapter discusses the defects of his overseas poetryafter concluding his creation and achievement, thus fulfills a multi-angle and deepresearch of Beidao’s overseas work.Before going abroad, Beidao’s poetry grabbed numerous attentions fromdomestic comments. However, his overseas work isn’t given enough attention.Therefore, this kind of research becomes especially important, which not only fillsthe gap of the research of Beidao’s overseas work, but also improves the spreadingand receiving of that.
