Witnessed the upsurge of learning Chinese, more and more oversea learnerstake it as the second language for long-term study, young children become anindispensable group, which calls for more suitable textbooks with pertinence.Textbooks have been playing an important role in teaching, which affects the basisand interests as well as comprehensive capacity of language. Literacy teaching, animportant component in the in elementary level, is of great significance to teachchildren literacy.This study consists of five parts. Chapter One is an introduction of the presentstudies, correlative researches and the significance of this topic. It also illustratesthe cognitive characteristics of young Chinese learners and the correlativelanguage acquisition theory. Chapter Two is the literature review on teachingChinese for kids. Chapter Three introduces the evaluation standards of textbook.Based on the established evaluation scale for primary Chinese charactercourse-book, the study explores the literacy teaching in the textbook from fourbasic indicators, namely, teaching objects and target, literacy teaching contents,literate method and teaching materials. The Fourth Chapter specifies the stroke, stroke order of Chinese characters, radicals, characters quantity and species, etc,summing up the general characteristics of literacy teaching in Chinese coursebooks for children. In the last chapter, it is the conclusion, suggestions for textbookcompiling and disadvantage of current research.
