Although vocational education has a late start in China, it has been developing at a rapidrate since the1990’s and is playing an increasingly important role in the education field inChina. Nowadays, English teaching requires the higher English level of graduations invocational college, especially, focus on the application of English in the real life. Most of theVocational college students have less confidence, pay less attention on English learning andhave less interest in learning. However, most of the vocational schools still use the traditionalteaching method, which cannot stimulate the motivation and activity of students to learnEnglish and improve the ability to use English to do things or to solve the problem. So how toimprove the ability to use English and how to enhance the interest on English listeningbecome a great challenge for the current English teaching in vocational school.Researchers have done so many studies on TBLT since1980s. Previous studies on TBLTmainly included definitions, components, types and features of tasks and features, principles,and pedagogical proposals of TBLT. However, few studies have explored in application inEnglish listening teaching in vocational college in China.This thesis first deals with the definition,the theoretical basis and the Current studies ofTBLT at home and abroad. Based on the theory, the author made a classroom experiment inthe application of TBLT in English listening class in aviation department in vocational school.In order to explore the effects of TBLT on improving the student’s listening ability andstimulate the students’ motivation on English listening,87students from2classes majoring inaviation were chosen as the subjects of this experiment. The control class employed thetraditional method while the experimental class used the TBLT. The duration of theexperiment is nearly four months, Through a sample lesson in the experimental class, aquestionnaire and two tests(pre-test and post-test), the author concluded that TBLT is moreeffective in improving students’ learning ability and stimulating motivation on listening. Thelevel of English listening in experimental class has improved a lot and they have more interestin English listening.In the conclusion, the author summarized the possibility and practicality to use TBLT inEnglish listening teaching in vocational college. The author points out that the study has some limitations, still the author hopes that this study can provide some help for the teachers whouse the TBLT and offers some suggestions for the future study.
