The higher vocational college is an important part of higher education in China.Along with the education reform and development,the importance of vocational college students' English learning becomes increasingly prominent.However,most of the students in vocational education have limited English proficiency and low learning enthusiasm,so how to improve student English and accelerate their enthusiasm deserve special attention.At the same time,in recent years,foreign and domestic researchers have explored profoundly the task-based language teaching,but researches on English teaching in vocational college were limited,even fewer studies of ESP vocabulary teaching were reported.Therefore,to study the application of TBLT to vocational teaching in vocational college has its own significance.This 4-month experimented study aims to investigating the application and effectiveness of professional vocabulary acquisition by software majored students in vocational college based on task-based language teaching method.The subjects in the experimented study are 98 students,aged between 19 and 21,from two classes in HuNan Vocational College of Science and Technology.The study is to verify two hypotheses,which are:(1)Consciously paying attention to vocabulary teaching can promote professional English vocabulary acquisition of higher vocational students.(2)Task-based teaching is more effective in vocabulary acquisition than traditional teaching.This study adopts experimental method,aiming comparing effectiveness of two teaching contexts: task-based teaching(experimental class)and traditional teaching(traditional control class).During the teaching process,scores of 7 tests were collected,but only 4 test scores were chosen for data analysis in the study,including the pretest;Unit3 achievement test;Unit5 achievement test and the posttest.By using Excel and SPSS,test scores are analyzed objectively.Findings of the study are as follows:(1)Students' vocabulary acquisition can be promoted through conscious attention to their acquisition as subjects in this study have made great progresses in their vocabulary acquisition.(2)Compared with traditional teaching,task-based teaching is more effective for students' vocabulary acquisition in higher vocational colleges.Subjects inexperimental group achieved significantly better achievements than those in the control group.TBLT has huge developing space in the field of practical application for the vocational colleges.And this study has provided concrete evidence and procedure of TBLT teaching for reference in vocational colleges.
