As an important public compulsory course,English is widely carried out in all kinds of higher vocational colleges.English teaching in higher vocational colleges is different from university English.The Ministry of Education has emphasized the basic requirements of English teaching.It issues that the communicative competence is the aim,it is important to apply the English language skills to solve practical problems in the real life communication.And English listening,which is the first place in English language skills,should carry out teaching reform according to the above requirements.At present,the traditional 3P teaching method which adopted in English listening class lacks interaction and communication.The training of listening skill which is used in the daily life become listening to the material and writing down the answers.As a result,serious violations of the teaching requirements have made students not interested in English listening.The students think the English listening course is boring.English listening skills can not achieve the effect of training in this way.The task-based teaching method developed in 1980 s,has been studied by many linguists and teaching experts at home and abroad.The definition,connotation and characteristics of task-based teaching method are quite complete.In terms of its own characteristics,such as emphasis on the output of language,keeping the task design close to real life and enhancing the interaction of cooperative learning,it coincides with the requirements of English listening teaching in higher vocational colleges.Therefore,how to reasonably use the task-based teaching method in English listening teaching practice in higher vocational colleges,to change the students' learning attitude towards English listening gradually,to stimulate students' enthusiasm in learning English listening,to cultivate students' listening skills and improve students' comprehensive language ability in English,is an issue that worth researching.Firstly,this paper reviews and summarizes the background and significance of task-based teaching method,analyzes the present situation of task-based teaching method.Secondly,it illustrates the task-based teaching method,and focuses on the framework for task-based learning designed by Willis.This paper also introduces the models of listening processes and teaching characteristics of English listening.It is theoretically explained thatthe application of task-based method is feasible to English listening teaching.Further more,in the third chapter,an experimental research on the use of task-based teaching method in English listening course has been made in a higher vocational college where the author of this thesis has been teaching.The data of experiment were analyzed scientifically and systematically to testify the advantage of the teaching method.The research methods are literature,questionnaire,experiment and comparing test.The experiment shows that the application of task-based teaching method in English listening teaching course is quite successful in higher vocational colleges.It not only changes the learning attitude from passive to positive towards English listening,improves the listening ability,but also helps the students cultivate the comprehensive ability of English,and the team cooperation spirit.Finally,the author summarizes the advantages of Task-based method which applied in English listening teaching of higher vocational college.The task-based teaching method can be carried out in English listening teaching step by step.At the same time,there are some difficulties and shortcomings appeared in the experiment.In regard to these problems,the author gives some suggestions for further exploration and research.
