The dialectics of internal relations is proposed by Bertell Oilman, a well-known Marxism scholar in America. As an important representative studying Marxism dialectics in UK and America, Ollman has paid great attention to Marxism dialectics for a long time. In order to reveal and demonstrate the historical inevitability of socialism, he applies Marxism dialectics to analyze and research the contemporary capitalism. The world socialism movement sunk into the low tide after the failure of socialism in Soviet Union and Eastern Europe. Because of the social reality, many people questioned the forms of socialism and even lost heart to the faith of socialism and communism. The inevitable problem that how to correctly understand the relationship of contemporary capitalism and socialism, needs to be solved by modern Marxists. In the opinion of Ollman, Marxism dialectics is the only sensible way to solve this problem. Without Marxism dialectics, people can’t correctly understand the relationship of contemporary capitalism and socialism. Therefore, Ollman points out that the reconsideration of Marxism dialectics is the first step to reconsider the future of socialism and communism. In order to cope with the rigorous challenges of Marxism, Ollman puts internal relations as the core of Marxism dialectics and gives reconsideration of Marxism dialectics. Based on this, Ollman’s theory of dialectics is named the dialectics of internal relations. Generally speaking, the dialectics of internal relations includes the internal relations, the abstraction, and the way of studying history background. With the dialectics of internal relations, people can recognize and analyze the development of contemporary capitalism. Thus Ollman’s dialectics of internal relations holds great importance. The main body of this thesis is composed of four chapters. Chapter one introduces the background and the contents of Ollman’s dialectics of internal relations. Chapter two gives some criticisms to contemporary capitalism and some kinds of thoughts against Marxism. Chapter three applies Ollman’s dialectics of internal relations to defense for socialism from two aspects——the historical inevitability and potentiality of socialism. Chapter four states the development of Marxism with Ollman’s dialectics of internal relations.
