The Theory Of Kuhn's Scientific Progress View

"Scientific progress" idea permeats through the whole progress of Kuhn′sphilosophy of science, it is one of the most important ideas of Kuhn ,“for a long time,many peopole take rationality and progress of the scientific for granted , without anydiscussion,we can safely come to the conclusion "[1]In this regard, different factionsof the philosophy of science have different ideas.Logical positivism thinks thatScientific progress is a static accumulation progess, which can be confirmed by theexperience is progressive, and vice versa is a step backward. Popper as therepresentative of critical rationalism school believes that scientific progress can notresort to confirmation, only resorting to falsification, and takes falsification as thecriteria of science and non science, he holds the idea that the development of scienceis target for the objective truth ,and takes the development of science is a dynamic one,Kuhn can not agree with the above two views, what he put forward the scientificdevelopment model and its implied view of progress, sparking ripples of academiccircles. Kuhn thinks that scientific development is combined with dynamic and static ,the progress of scientific neither resort to the confirmation nor to the falsification. Hedenied theexistence of objective truth, and advocates his own view of instrumentalismtruth,he thinks that which paradigm is usefu that is progress,and scientific progresscan not resort to rational inspection.its only depends on the scientists belief .Kuhn′spragmatism idea on the scientific progress is a special one in the academic community,and can not be accepted by his circles .In this regard, the author re-read Kuhn, try toelaborate of his thinking on scientific progress, hoping to bring a hint of a new dawnfor the elimination of the misreading of Kuhn.This thesis consists of the following five parts.The first part, we will focus on theorigins of Kuhn′s scientific progress.Kuhn’s scientific progress idea affected by thescientific revolutionary thought of Alexandre Koyréand Butterfield′s theory of"toreplace the thinking hat", Conant′s history of scientific thought, and the impact ofQuine’s "incommensurability". Though the analysis of the above point of view, wecan found the origins of Kuhn′s point of view.The second part, in order to clarify the confusion between the concept ofscientific development and Scientific progress,we introduced and analyzed theconcept of Kuhn’s scientific development,on the basis of the unity of logical andhistorical ,Kuhn divided scientific development into five stages.that is the paradigmperiod, normal period, abnormal period, and the times of crisis, he thinks that thedevelopment of science is the process of combining static and dynamic,whichdifferent from the logical positivism and critical rationalism.we should make abalance between them.The third part, according to Kuhn himself exposition of scientific progress,weanalyzed and expounded the Kuhn′sscientific progressive view. Including the progressof the former paradigm、the progress of normal scientific、the progress of abnormalscientific and the sign of scientific progress. Through this part of discussion, we striveto clarify the misunderstanding to Kuhn′s scientific progress, and elabrate the sign of Kuhn′s scientific progress .The fourth Part , focusing on analysis of the characteristics of the concept ofrelativism,subjectivism,irrationalismof Kuhn′s scientificprogress.These characteristicshas always been criticised by the acdemic circles,through the analysis of thesecharacteristics, we have found that they are not all the defects of Kuhn, to someextent ,they perfected Kuhn.Because the above characteristics bring not all of theharm to the scientific progress ,in many cases,the scientific progress without thesupport of irrationalism, subjective.The fifth part,focusing on the analysis of what effect ofKuhn′s scientificprogressive view on academic.We analyed and introduced the inheritance anddevelopment of Laudan and Feyerabend on kuhn′s pragmatism and rationalismexpounded what understanding of Laudan and Feyerabend on it.
