A Comparative Research On Kuhn's And Feyerabend's Philosophy Of Science

Kuhn and Feyerabend,representatives of scientific historicism,were the great and controversial scientific philosophers in the 20 th century.Based on the history of science,they expounded their philosophical theories from the development of science.And they solved the typical problems of philosophy of science.The academic circles analyzed the similarity by regarding them as the same group and did not conduct a comparative study on their ideological connotations.Starting with the literatures of Kuhn's and Feyerabend's,the detailed sorting and analysis were carried out in the paper.Their differences between the same questions were tried to clarify by analyzing and comparing scientific philosophy ideas.That would help us to understand the key problems in the philosophy of science more deeply.The paper attempted to make a comparative research on the scientific philosophy from different aspects,including scientific demarcation,scientific development model and incommensurability.In terms of the problem of scientific demarcation,Kuhn believed that science is an activity to explain problems,while Feyerabend believed that scientific demarcation is unnecessary and inpracticable,and denied the existence of any demarcation standards.They had many historical,social,and relative commonalities in the delimitation theories.But Feyerabend more irrationally disagreed with Kuhn's "paradigm".In terms of the problem of scientific development model,Kuhn put forward classical scientific development model in the book The Structure of Scientific Revolutions,while Feyerabend denied that there is a reasonable model of scientific development and proposed theoretical proliferation.Both of them raised the scientific instrumentalism,scientific dynamics,methodological diversity and other theories,but Feyerabend's theories were more diversified and its scope of discussion was greater.In terms of the problem of the incommensurability,both of their theories were influenced by Gestalt psychology with some irrational factors.There are also some differences in the content and scope of incommensurability.It can be seen that there are some differences in their way of thinking research and the final directions.Feyerabend is more irrational than Kuhn.Their theories are the highlight on the history of Western philosophy of science,which has had a profound impact on later generations.
