| Thoracic obstruction is one of the most common clinical symptoms and signs.Owing to vital QI deficiency, stagnation of QI, turbid phlegm, blood stasis andaccumulation of pathogenic cold obstruct heart vessels and consequently induceparoxysmal stuffy feeling in the chest and pain in the front or left chest. Theslight condition of patients only feel temporary chest stuffiness or dull painin the chest or uncomfortable feeling in the left chest; the severe patientswould endure serious pains in both chest and back without relieving. Thoracicobstruction has a closely relationship with the coronary atherosclerotic heartdisease (angina pectoris, myocardial infarction). The incidence of thoracicobstruction in senior patients is high. Accompanied with the aggravated socialpressure, promoted living standard and the change of people’s lifestyle, theincidence of thoracic obstruction is increasing year by year. Furthermore themorbidity of the young is rising.Professor Li holds the opinion that accompanied with the fiercelycompetition in the society, aggravated pollution and the unhealthy lifestyles, patients with stagnation of QI due to depression of liver are becoming more andmore.“Plain Questions†recorded:“All diseases are induced by QIâ€,“Classic of Questioning†written:“How to distinguish the regular meridiansinduced heart disease between the five pathogens induced heart disease? Answered:The emotions of sad or sorrow or thinking will damage the heartâ€. The bookexactly pointed out that abnormal emotion can cause diseases. Besides “Synopsisof Golden Chamber†wrote:“Reinforce spleen when the liver is in excesscondition and before it invades the spleenâ€. If the stagnation of QI due todepression of liver for a long time, it’s liable to attack the spleen and stomach. However, the spleen and stomach are acquired constitution and the origin of QIand blood. If the spleen failed to transport and convert, essence of water andgrain would changed into fluid and accumulated into phlegm. The accumulatedphlegm and fluid belong to the yin pathogens in nature, and they will impair yang QI. Consequently cause hypo-function of yang QI in the chest without thesupply of spleen and excessive accumulation of yin pathogen. Also owing to “QIpromotes the circulation of blood; stagnation of QI would lead to blood stasisâ€.If the liver failed to maintain the normal flow of QI, then the circulation ofQI and blood would become abnormal. As a result, the obstruction ofcardiovascular can cause chest distress and pain. The stagnation of QI, turbidphlegm and accumulation of pathogenic cold and blood stagnation would inevitablyaffect the circulation of blood and obstruct heart vessels. Therefore theoccurrence and progression of thoracic obstruction are closely related with thedepressed liver and the insufficient spleen, relieving depression of theliver-Qi, reinforcing the spleen and disperse the obstruction is one of themainly treatment principles. Professor Li Wenjie excels in treating patientsthrough syndrome differentiation between liver and spleen and applying herbsto relieve depression of the liver-Qi, reinforce the spleen and disperse theobstruction. This paper mainly concentrates on overall summary of the valuableknowledge and clinical experience of my tutor in liver, spleen, stagnation ofQi, turbid phlegm and thoracic obstruction. It’s of great significance inenriching the theoretical foundation for further investigation of Thoracicobstruction. |
