"Shishuoxinyu" is produced in China’s Southern Song Dynasty (420-581), mainly an account of the conversations and anecdotes of celebrities in Wei Dynasty and Jin Dynasty. This book is important to research the history, language, literature of that time. it is also important to be the information that can be used as a full range of Middle Chinese. Grammatical function of the verb in the sentence is to be a predicate which is a "core" of the many grammatical elements.The verb is also the key and difficult points of the study of Chinese grammar. Verbs can be researched in various angles. Valency theories have a long history as a significant linguistic theory. In China, it is widely applied to the study of modern Chinese verbs. In the areas of vocabulary research of the ancient Chinese book, however, the application of valence theory is not wide enough. there is much room for expansion.In this paper, we analysised the verbs of "Shishuoxinyu" detailed by valency theories and carefully study the valency situation, semantic characteristics, Collocation of the semantic roles of the verbs of "Shishuoxinyu".We hope this effort can contribute to research the verbs of ancient Chinese books.
