Art appreciation course is a visual experience based on appreciating. In thecontext of visual culture, art appreciation course gradually becomes a visualculture curriculum. It is not simply for appreciation, but for the cultivation ofappreciation ability. It is to teach by a new "look" method and to cultivatestudents’ ability of thinking independently and create a complete aestheticemotion. The students learn the importance of looking and combine "look" withlife and culture through the "look". Traditional art appreciation course has thedisadvantages of one way transmission of knowledge and students participationbeing low and thinking set. In this paper, it analysed the reasons behind thisphenomenon. Through teaching case analysis, in contrast to traditional artappreciation course, it actively explored and systematically studied the visualexperience’s application in junior high school art appreciation course and itobtained a more reliable conclusion as following. In the junior high school artappreciation course, the use of visual experience can stimulate students’ interestin learning and play the students’ main role. Through teacher’s guidance, itmakes students learn to induce visual information and independently access tothe state of course content and express the feelings of works of art with theirown understanding. It trains the students’ ability to find, analyse and solve problems and strengthens students’ creative thinking. And it is the truerealization of student-centered teaching visual experience.
