Strong earthquake record is an important data base for the development of earthquake engineering, which is the most direct information resource for people to aware earthquake, and do the research. Costly data of strong motion records of scientific classification, the aseismic design and structure based on the analysis and the use is the premise and foundation to do a good job of protecting against and mitigating earthquake disasters. For a long time, the ground motion information mining is done through the statistical analysis, and statistical analysis is based on the classification of earthquake. It is not hard to find, whether it is earthquake ground motion attenuation relationship, or the statistical characteristics of response spectrum, or other elements parameters change rule, there is significant statistical discrete or uncertainty. Even under the influence of the vibration factors such as site condition, magnitude and distance after classifying, it continues to show significant differences between different ground motions. The traditional seismic classification method itself still has a lot of problems. The nature of the problem is that such as site condition, magnitude, and distance are just the important factors that affect the ground motion characteristics, is by no means, and also should not be used to distinguish the ground motion of the generic standard and basis. Analyzes believed that currently appears in the seismic analysis and application of these problems were not able to rely on waiting for earthquakes and simply increasing the numbers of observation records can solve, which is the traditional seismic design earthquake classification method and is not available to solve the current huge uncertainties that exist in the problem. It must be used a different approach, especially the fine characteristics of ground motion and ground motion classification associated with the new method can be expected with satisfactory results.This paper mainly research on seismic classification method based on the response spectrum characteristics, classification of earthquake research, and no longer thinking of traditional factors. In this paper, the classifications of the steps are divided into the following three steps:(1) Based on three earthquake research targets, in order to find out the specification considering problems that are existed in the traditional classification of the factors affecting seismic method.(2) Taking the Wenchuan earthquake as an example, the use of cycle control point size toWenchuan earthquake ground motion are classified as the classification index.(3) Using Fourier spectrum ratio combining gauged response spectrum shape classification to classify Wenchuan earthquake ground motion.
