In this paper, the development trend of domestic and foreignmethanol production and the main hazard factors in the producing processof coal with high sulfur were discussed. It is of great importance andnecessity to analyze and evaluate the hazard risk. Basing on theproducing process, the dangerous and harmful factors of the productionunit, the device operation process were identified. The degrees of riskwere determined by risk analysis evaluation method. The structureimportant degrees for each basic event were calculated by fault treeanalysis (FTA) method. The events were determinated, the factors andreasons of fire and explosion accidents for pressure vessels were analyzed,the effictive measures were designed. The fire and explosion dangerevaluation was done for the main production unit, such as gasification,transform, propylene device, methanol wash, methanol synthesis,distillation, by DOW chemical Fire Explosion Index method.The safety evaluation software from Nanjing Security TechnologyCompany was used for some simulation analysis, including tank fire formethanol and some intermediates, vapor cloud explosion of liquefied gastank, propylene tank, leakage and diffusion poisoning for coal gas andhydrogen sulfide gas. Some preventive measures was presented.
