In recent years, the production of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) shows a trend ofaccelerated growth as increasing of people’s living standards. Meanwhile the transportdistance of MSW increases gradually. As an important part of MSW integratedmanagement system, MSW transportation system seriously affects the operating efficiencyof MSW disposal system. MSW transfer station has a very important role in MSWcollection and transportation system. If the site of MSW transfer station is not appropriate,it will greatly enhance the transport cost of MSW and have serious damage to urbanconstructions and the landscape. Therefore, the emphasis of this paper is research onlocation selection of waste transfer station.First, this paper analyzes the current research on location selection of waste transferstation, the characteristics of MSW transportation system and basic concepts. Then thispaper has comprehensive comparative analysis of the existing model of MSW transferstation location selection. According to the comparative analysis of the results, FuzzyComprehensive Evaluation and Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) are difficult to expressthe quantitative result because of strong subjectivity. For the complexity of computing theinteger programming model or dynamic programming model limits its practicalapplication. Therefore, single qualitative or quantitative location model in actual selectionhas great limitations. This paper combines modern logistics theory and the characteristicsof MSW collection and transportation system. At last this paper builds an optimal modelof MSW transfer station location selection consisting of Set Covering Model and AHP foroptimizing location of MSW transfer station. In the end, the optimal model is applied to Huangshan district for verifying the rationalityand practicability of this model. By using LINGO and MATLAB program to simplifyoperation process, this paper gets a theoretically optimal plan of transfer station location.
