Study On Characters Of The Han Nationality Modern Folk Costumes

“Chinese Character” is time-honored in our country, and plays an important role in theprogress of our historical civilization. When the characters were regarded as a kind of pattern,shown on some ancient stuffs, as well as architectures and clothes, which is absolutely a brandnew artistic aesthetics for people. Chinese character pattern is quite important for thedecoration of folk costumes. It is unique and also with profound cultural deposits.Researching on these Chinese character patterns in traditional clothes presents a significantacademic value. On the basis of historical references, the author collected the Chinesecharacter patterns from each every dynasty, Firstly, the Chinese character patterns werepresented in garments the first time during the Qin and Han dynasties, originally, the simpleChinese characters were decorated in ancient clothes staying together with other patterns,which size was quite small. Then, as time went to Tang and Yuan dynasties, the Chinesecharacter patterns were shown in clothes with certain permutation and combination, whencame to Ming dynasty, the Chinese character patterns were perfectly mixed with otherpatterns, in Qing dynasty, the development of the Chinese character patterns reached anunprecedented ascent.The article focuses on the research of traditional folk costumes with kinds of Chinesecharacter patterns in Folk Costumes Museum of Jiangnan University, mainly research objectis the Chinese character patterns in these clothes, carry on a detailed research on thesepatterns, and conclude their patterns categories and structure features, find out their culturaldeposits as well.In the end, the author makes a survey and collects some detailed design cases on modernclothes and accessories, which have Chinese character patterns on them, compare and analyzethese old and modern patterns, find their decoration features, based on these, do the creativedesign and development in modern clothes, finally conceive the creation decorated byChinese character patterns which will be fashionable and traditional. As mentioned above,Chinese character patterns are significant for the development of modern clothing design,therefore, we should appeal to our people to protect and promote these Chinese characterpatterns, which are our precious intangible cultural heritage.
