In this research paper, the material used in this experiment included Linear Low Density Polyethylene as raw material, Chlorobenzene as solvent, Sulfonyl Chloride as Chlorination Chlorine Sulfonated agent, and Azobisisobutyronitrile as the initiator. Experiment used these materials to precede the synthesis of chlorosulfonated polyethene (CSM) and to study the chlorinity, sulphur content, Mooney viscosity, Shore Hardness, tensile strength, thermostability, dynamic mechanical properties, etc. of the product CSM. On the other side, the performance of vulcanized rubber of CSM is also one part of this research.Based on the infrared spectroscopy (IR spectra), the Chlorobenzen as solvent with the Chlorosulfonated agent sulfonyl chloride can successfully become the synthesis of CSM. Depend on to change the dosage of the sulfonyl chloride and to control the time of reaction, the different content of chlorine sulfur can be produced.Through the research of the CSM tensile properties effected by vulcanization system, the experiment suggested that the influence of Metal oxide vulcanization system with chlorosulfonated polyethene on the tensile properties is stronger, Strength can reach28mpa,but the elongation at break is very weak.Depend on the Thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA), the thermal degradation of CSM and vulcanizate has two degradation stages. Because the initial decomposition temperature of initial vulcanized rubber is lower than the temperature of chlorosulfonated polyethylene rubber, the thermostability of the polymer decrease by the increase of sulfur content in the product. However, both initial decomposition temperature in CSM and vulcanizate are higher than250℃, so both of them can satisfy the Chlorosulfonated polyethylene used as engineering materials. This experiment provides the theoretical basis for industrial production and application of chlorosulfonated polyethylene. On the basis of the dynamic mechanical analysis, the glass transition temperature of CSM vulcanizates is only above10℃but vulcanizates still have a good anti-seismic performance. Through the study of the impact of shore hardness, the dosages of vulcanizing agent performance and carbon black in CSM were influenced by other CSM performance. Therefore, the dosages of them should not be too high.
