Chlorosulfonated polyethylene?CSM? is prepared from low density polyethylene or high density polyethylene by chlorination and chlorosulfonation, which is white or yellow. The preparation method of CSM is divided into solution method and solid phase method.The product prepared by solution method is good in performance uniformity, but the solvent consumption is big, the pollution is heavy, the energy consumption is high, the production efficiency is low, the sulfur dioxide utilization rate is low. While the preparation of CSM by solid phase method has the advantages of short reaction time, low cost, little pollution, simple and reasonable technology, and soon. Compared with the solution method, it has a broad prospect. Research group chlorinated and chlorine sulfonated step by step by using solid phase method. The reaction process is easily to control and reduce the cost. At the same time, compared with Hypalon40 prepared in solution method, it is slightly higher in 100% modulus and its tensile strength is high. In this paper, we based on the work of the formers and design the gas-solid bulk method to prepare CSM in the view of preparation of CPE and CSM in solid phase method. We took high density polyethylene?HDPE? as reaction matrix, chlorine?Cl2? and sulfonyl chloride?SO2Cl2? as reaction reagent. Firstly, HDPE and SO2Cl2 made a full contact, and then poured Cl2 into the system, and then warmed up gradually. Finally,terminate the reaction if meet requirements. This paper proved the feasibility of the reaction process of preparation of CSM by FT-IR?1H-NMR, and conducted a preliminary quantitative analysis to the CSM chain structure in this processing, such as distribution of chlorine groups and sulfonyl chloride groups; Through the CSM thermal properties and mechanical properties,we determined the reactivity of-SO2 Cl group on the molecular chain; Gas-solid preparation of CSM can get excellent mechanical properties after crosslinking;We replaced sulfur dioxide with SO2Cl2 and this method can avoid the use of large amounts of sulfur dioxide.It turned out that the operation process simplified greatly, the production cost reduced, the production safety enhanced and the efficiency of sulfonated improved. The results of this paper lay a foundation for the development of a new route of CSM preparation.
