Purpose: To analyze the cognitive degree of Uyghur women from Kashgar Payzawatand Hotan Karakax in Xinjiang to related knowledge of cervical cancer and Humanpapillomavirus (HPV) by questionnaire survey, discuss the role of health education onrural Uyghur women’s cognitive degree about cervical cancer and HPV, provide the basisfor the educational intervention of cervical cancer in Xinjiang. Method: Before educationintervention,1000cases Uyghur women from Kashgar Payzawat and1042cases Uyghurwomen from Hotan Karakax were investigated through questionnaire related theirknowledge about cervical cancer and HPV. After two years health education, we conductsecond time of survey on Uyghur women’s knowledge about cervical cancer and HPVusing same questionnaire.2test was used for data analysis by Statistical Package forthe Social Sciences(SPSS)17.0. Results:Before health education intervention, thecognitive degree of rural Uyghur women for related information of cervical cancer wasgenerally low. The awareness rate of cervical cancer was related to occupation,whichgrowed by increasing of educational level(P<0.01). After health education intervention,the awareness rate of cervical cancer, susceptible age for cervical cancer, high risk factors,HPV and pap smear testing were increased than before, the differences were statisticallysignificant (P<0.01). Conclusion: The awareness rate of cervical cancer was related tooccupation,which growed by increasing of educational level. The women’s awareness ofthe basic knowledge about cervical cancer and HPV can be improved by health education.Thereby, the health education intervention is important to reduce the incidence of cervicalcancer in Xinjiang.
