Objective:The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between infectious diseaseduring pregnancy, and the influence of antibacterial medications on pregnancy outcome. Bydiscussing the pros and cons of using antibiotics in pregnancy and its safety, perfect thehealth care during the perinatal period as we expect. Methods:We collected85cases between September2011and August2012, which from ouremergency department, and the outpatient of gynecology and obstetrics. These cases weredivided into Infection Group (n=40) and Normal Group (n=45). And according to theantibiotic therapy taken or not, the Infection Group was divided into Treated Group A(n=21)and Untreated Group B (n=19). We compared the infectious diseases in each group, andeffectiveness of antibacterial medications on pregnancy outcome.Results:1. Infection disease and fever during pregnancy at high risk for adverse pregnancy outcomes(p=0.008,95%CI:0.027~0.0578; p=0.014,95%CI:0.054~0.722). They can cause birthdefects, such as abortion, premature delivery, fetal distress and fetal growth restriction(FGR), stillbirth and low birth weight (LBW), neonatal infection and congenital abnor-malities. 2. Untreated Group B had a significantly higher incidence of adverse pregnancy outcomethan both of treated group and normal group (P <0.017), its live birth infants’ BPD, FL,gestational age and birth weight were significantly lower than normal group (P <0.05). AndTreated Group have no significant difference with Normal Group in these indicators exceptbirth gestational age (P <0.05).3. In this study, about57%cases of Treated Group using the third generation of cephal-osporin drugs, we found no obvious adverse side effect on pregnancy outcomes. Conclusion:Infection during pregnancy and fever are risk factors for adverse pregnancy. It can causeFGR, abortion, fetal death, stillbirth, premature delivery, premature rupture of fetalmembrane (PROM), fetal distress, LBW and neonatal infectious diseases. Reasonable andeffective using of antibiotics can reduce the incidences of adverse pregnancy, and decreasethe incidence of birth defects. Cefixime is a third-generation Cephalosporin with a widerspectrum of activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria and anaerobic. There’s no associated with adverse pregnancy outcome, it could be used on the infectiousdiseases in the period of pregnancy.
