Objective According to the result of monitoring drinking water of a city metropolisduring2004to2011, we analyse the drinking water quality and make efforts to improveit. And understanding on health-related knowledge and awareness of the city drinkingwater plant employees through the questionnaire and to facilitate a preliminaryunderstanding of residents’ drinking water health knowledge deficiencies, to provide atheoretical basis for the relevant departments to formulate relevant policies.Methods The study was gathered and evaluated depend on the National DrinkingWater Standards. Designing questionnaire according to the survey objectives andrequirements, including employees,the general awareness of knowledge and healthsituation of drinking water. Choosing a total of80employees of Lu’an municipal andcounty water plant, and conducting a questionnaire survey, using EpeiData3.0toestablish a database and make entry, data collated for statistical analysis usingSPSS17.0.Results In the study,1038samples were collected and monitored, including24samplesof source water,60samples of central water supply,890samples of endpoint water and64samples of secondary water supply. The total qualification rate is81.6%, and thequalification rate of the four water bodies are91.7%,63.3%,83.9%and62.5%respectively. The main projects exceeded the standards are nitrate nitrogen in the sourcewater, turbidity, iron, residual chlorine and nitrate nitrogen in the central water supply, turbidity, total coliforms, bacteria count, residual chlorine, iron and manganese in theendpoint water, and turbidity, total coliforms, bacteria count, residual chlorine and ironin the secondary water supply.Investigated a total of80people,76were valid questionnaires, the response rate of95.0%.90.8%of employees think that human health are related to drinking water,2.6%of employees believe no relation to human health and drinking water.68.4%ofemployees understand the knowledge of drinking water.94.7%of respondents issatisfied of their own drinking water,76.3%of respondents believe that the quality ofdrinking water is good, and1.3%of employees believe that the drinking water quality ispoor. Drinking water health knowledge right rate there was significant differencebetween different investigation unit, age, educational level, type of work and length ofservice (P <0.5), the correct rate was no significant difference between men and women.Conclusion According to the result, the health supervision, technical guidance, themanagement of pipe net and secondary water supply system and the disinfection ofdrinking water should be improved. Promoting the knowledge of drinking water healthand health education. And also it’s needed to intensify the propaganda of drinking watersafety.
