Objective:To explore the callus bone mineral density changes during fracture healing and to analyze the relationship between the changes of bone mineral density measurement in X-ray and bone density measurement of DXA in fracture healing, using the changes of bone density measurement by DXA to value the fracture callus growth effectively and to forecast the trend of fracture healing (normal healing, delayed healing, poor healing and nonunion)and bone lost.Methods:Collection281cases of traumatic closed tibial fractures all were treated by open reduction and internal fixation operation,(There were155males,126females, age biggest81years old, the smallest26years old, the average age is56years old).After operation at2weeks,4weeks,8weeks,12weeks,16weeks respectively using dual energy X-ray absorptiometry measure the bone mineral dentisy, and bonedensity ratio was calculated.And after operation at2weeks,4weeks,,8weeks,12weeks,16weeks all the cases were checked by ordinary X-ray.Result:In the process of normal healing of fracture, the fracture end BMD values from0.809±0.11rose to0.858±0.13, and is related to time, the peak at8to12weeks, have obvious statistical significance compared with the postoperative measurements for the first time, at the same time X-ray showed fracture line from clear to fuzzy, had significant compared with the control area; Normal healing callus bone mineral density ratio with the healing process is gradually increased,98.89±3.15%, up from81.28±4.35%before and after comparison with obvious statistical significance.Conclusion:Bone mineral density measurement can be a simple and practical method for noninvasive assessment of the healing process of fracture. With its contralateral limb as control group, bone density ratio of callus can substitute for bone density measurement for judging the fracture healing index.
