“Bijing、daodi、jiujing、zhongjiu” are modal adverbs which have the feature ofcoincidence semantically, thus leading to the difficulties of understanding and using.Therefore, they are one of difficult points in Chinese vocabulary teaching forforeigners. However, there have not been the researches so far to study the similaritiesand differences of these model adverbs, and the ways to teach them in the courses oflearning Chinese. The present paper will study “bijing、daodi、jiujing、zhongjiu” fromseveral aspects of grammatical meanings, structural collocations, pragmatic functionsand summarize the similarities and differences of them, employing the researchmethods of contractive analysis, semantic analysis and transformative analysis.Through the analysis of the questionnaires, the difficulties and obstacles foreignstudents encounter in the acquisition of these four modal adverbs will be found. Theauthor will put forward the corresponding teaching strategies and make the teachingdesigns.The first part will focus on the significance and value of research, discussing thatmodal adverbs are the more important and difficult point in the Chinese teaching forforeigners, especially in teaching “bijing、daodi、jiujing、zhongjiu” which havesemantic overlap. The author then summarizes and teases some relevant researches ofthese four modal adverbs, and explicates the scope, subjects, theories and researchmethods of the present paper.Chapter one mainly concentrate on the research of “bijing、daodi、jiujing、zhongjiu”, summing up their rules on semantic meanings, structural collocations andpragmatic functions as well as the differences of using these four modal adverbs.Chapter two is the innovation of the present paper since it is the first time tocontractively analyze Chinese and English modal adverbs. The differences betweenthese modal adverbs are demonstrated by abundant examples so as to provide reference to linguists on the error reasons of acquiring Chinese shown by foreignstudents.Chapter there summarizes the reasons that foreign students encounter difficultiesand obstacles during the process of learning “bijing、daodi、jiujing、zhongjiu” throughthe analysis of questionnaires, test papers and homework of foreign students.Chapter four aims to explore the teaching strategies of modal adverbs. The authorfirst puts forward the principles of arranging modal adverbs in the Chinese teachingmaterials and the ways of teaching modal adverbs, and then makes teaching designs to“bijing、daodi、jiujing、zhongjiu”.
