| This thesis has sorted out colloquial words in Xingshi Hengyan comprehensively, in which387words are collected, described and analyzed objectively and systematically the colloquial words from six aspects which are syllables, word class, semantic analysis, new words and meanings of the Ming Dynasty, the development of the colloquial words and the folk customs and culture so as to make clear the outline of the colloquial words in Stories to Awaken the World.From the perspective of syllables, the syllable forms of the colloquial words in the book include monosyllable, disyllable and polysyllable, among which disyllable accounts for the main portion. From the perspective of word class, there contains content words like nouns, verbs, adjectives and quantifiers, function words like preposition, auxiliary and onomatopoeia. Some words are classified into both two sides. According to the semantic meaning, this thesis has classified the colloquial words into five categories which are salutation, object class, action class, state and nature class and the other. The author of the thesis has compared and analyzed some words relevant in meaning. It is believed that these colloquial words can be divided into four word groups:synonym, near-synonym, contrast and comparison and the same morpheme group. Through semantic analysis, it is found that the colloquial words in Xingshi Hengyan feature colorful sensations, diverse attitudes, vivid images, prominent colloquial features.The colloquial words in Xingshi Hengyan have accumulated words from different dynasties which include the words of the former dynasties and new words in the Ming Dynasty. This thesis has referred to the Dictionary of Chinese, other Chinese lexicographical dictionaries and some synchronic language dictionaries. The author of the thesis has sorted out the new colloquial words and meanings produced in the Ming Dynasty, studied their word-formation, and found that three ways which are morphological word-formation, syntactic word-formation and rhetoric word-formation are taken to coin new colloquial words. The colloquial words in the book have been developing all the time that can be found in the comparison with modern Chinese. Some words owe their modern meanings, some are still used today, some have disappeared, some have changed their meaning though still exist today. Colloquial words have always been closed connected with folk culture. The colloquial words in Xingshi Hengyan have reflected the folklore and social culture in diet, festivals, faith, communication, building, implement, trade, marriage, birth and funerals and so on, which can provide some reference material for studying the folk culture of that period. |
