The diet of the geographical name can often reflect the area’s cultural identity, andthe food culture refracted in the diet name is an important part of the social culture.Shanxi, located in the middle reaches of the Yellow River, is the world’s earliest andlargest agricultural centers of origin, but also the birthplace of the Chinese pastaculture. Its long history, rich connotation, the deep accumulation of the catchesworldwide attention. The small grains based in Shanxi pasta culture is unique in thecountry, the name of cooked wheaten food reflects the social and cultural outlook ofthe various localities. In this paper, the author intend to interpret ate the characteristicsand significance of the name of cooked wheaten food in Shanxi from a culturalperspective.According to the study of archaeological findings of cooked wheaten food, it canbe traced back to the Neolithic period, and flourished during the Spring and AutumnPeriod, greatly enriched the type in the period of Han, and reached to the prosperity ofthe Tang and Song dynasties, finally amounted to its heyday in the Yuan, Ming andQing Dynasty. Long history of shows unique and cultural characteristics, featuring thediversity of raw materials and production techniques and no distinct difference ofstaple food and subsidiary food. These features are all based in a unique naturalenvironment, historical factors, cultural and human factors.From the perspective of lexical analysis, the names appear mainly in the form ofa composite-biased official, the main verb-object and additional "child" suffix thename of the suffix "child" often can be converted into ABB/AAB form, these twonames is commonly used in Shanxi, which are main forms of the same thing withdifferent calls. The names are also closely linked with the dialect, mainly for the useof "ge" in naming from a lexical point of view. Lexical name features are animportant reflection of the cultural identity of cooked wheaten food in Shanxi. Thereare a wealth of cultural significance behind the names, take example for aestheticappeal of the realistic and impressionistic and the symbolic and cultural expressionsof the historical stories and tales and names in popular rituals behind the names ofcooked wheaten food.There are many problems and difficulties in the development of names cookedwheaten food, particularly in the lack of attention, standardization and publicity. Tosolve these problems, the author thinks that we should have a try from the followingaspects: Firstly, doing the standardization job; secondly holding all-round andmulti-level Cultural Festivals; thirdly founding the relevant network, newspapers,magazines and editing books; fourthly, combining it with tourism.
