| This report is based on the author’s3-month long field work as a simultaneousinterpreter for Huawei Corporarion. During these days, she interpreted for FinanceDepartment on many occasions, including formal CFO workshops, regular meetingsand informal discussions. Some meetings were hastily scheduled and sometimes theinterpreter was accidentally changed, therefore, the author did not have enough timeto prepare and did not know much about the background of the meeting. Due to theinsufficiency of the background knowledge, anxiety and misunderstanding of thesource text were unavoidable. Sometimes the author failed to keep up with thespeaker, so the output was awkward.In this report, the author lays special emphasis on two parts: to probe intoproblems arising from insufficient preparations for the meeting; summarize herlessons and propose possible solutions to these problems. The author hopes thatwould-be interpreters can benefit from her experiences. |
