The arrival of information age makes the mass media has become a powerful force, inaddition to traditional media, computers, mobile phones, tablets, and other emerging mediaare increasingly holding people’s leisure time, become an indispensable part of people’s life,and affects the way people live. With the improvement of family material conditions, ordinaryfamilies has increased the kinds of media, which makes the opportunity and time of studentscontacting the media to increase, mass media audience gradually to younger age groups. Inthis case, the primary school students media literacy education has become a problem to besolved, at the same time is also of concern to social groups.This paper firstly combed the domestic and foreign scholars on media literacy research,reviewed the developing process of media literacy and history, and summarized the relatedtheory and the definition of media literacy.Under the background of this research, through reading and reference a large number ofrelevant literature and data, on the basis of empirical investigation, the author has carried onthe questionnaire survey of the shijiazhuang city nearly more than three hundred primaryschool children and parents to understand the current media environment and media literacystatus quo of shijiazhuang city elementary school students, and on this basis, through analysisof relevant data examines the factors that influence the medium of shijiazhuang cityelementary conditions will be the last simple summing up and summarizing the researchresults, and put forward some Suggestions on family, school and social aspects of medialiteracy education.Research conclusions show that the current media environment of urban pupils issuperior, media contact type displays diverse characteristics. But there are still obviousproblems in media use of students. The first is there is a deviation on media use. The mediause of pupils relatively focused on the use of TV, computer, while newspapers, radio and othermedia in a relatively weak position; Secondly, from the point of use function, media function using of primary school students is one-sided, focus on entertainment function of mass media,and interactive participation is not high. The third is primary school students lack of systemknowledge, knowledge of media mainly through daily media contact behavior by thespontaneous formation of the common sense to understand and experience summary, thenature of the lack of deep understanding and knowledge about media system, most of thepupils how superficial understanding of media phenomenon, and the lack of independentthinking and questioning ability.Overall, the primary school students cannot make good use of media effectively, they areunable to make correct evaluation and criticism of media. Therefore, media literacy educationof primary school students is imperative.
