Since the Coleman Report in1960s, researchers at home and abroad havebegun to widely concern the families’ influences on college students’ academicrecord. Not only is individuals’ academic record relevant to the quantity of teachingand industry, but it closely relates to family capital. Based on review and summaryof relevant research of family capital, this paper presents family economic capital,social capital and cultural capital as criteria to explore the families’ influences oncollege students’ academic record. This paper, accordance with theoretical analysis,attempts to discover the relationship between individuals’ academic record andfamily capital, further to enrich theoretical research of family capital, providecolleges and universities with philosophy of education, and also offer families andindividuals valuable guide on education investment and planning.This paper consists of five chapters, each chapter does a part. The first part, asorigination of study, including purpose and significance of study, presents researchideas and method on the basis of introduction of family capital’ application toeducation field. The second part is empirical analysis and hypothesis formation. Itdisplays conceptions of family economic capital、social capital and cultural capital,and their measurement criteria. Then in the light of academic point of view withinfamily capital sphere, form the theoretical model and hypothesis. The third part isstudy design, firstly introducing research method, variable quantity and itsmeasurement methods,analytical techniques et cetera, hereafter doing reliabilityverifications and descriptive analysis for16professional data from collection. Astheoretical analysis, the forth part does reliability verifications for every scale,afterwards extracts main factors from capital elements, and finally concludesrelationships between main factors of each capital and academic record. The last part is summery and suggestions. This paper draws three conclusions as follows:(1)Among elements of family capital, influence of family economic capital onindividuals’ academic record is the most significant. Family economic capital,especially parents’ income, obviously affects academic record, not only academicpoints and quality points, but also scholarship awards.(2)The secondary influencing factor on individuals’ academic record is familysocial capital. The process characteristics of family capital influence individuals’academic points、quality expand points, and times of getting scholarship awards;While the structure characteristics notably influence quality expand points.(3)Comparatively, family cultural capital has little influences on individuals’academic record. It affects academic points in evidence, but no clear influences onquality expand points、English level and scholarship awards.
